The original question may be more basic than assumed.

Having opened a landscape A4 page and then moved a vertical guide in the
middle,
now you are ready to use the Text Tool to create separate A5 sized text
frames
in each half...  In essence you treat each "text frame" as a separate page.
When you fill up the first page with text, then you link to the next
page (which,
depending on your folding plans may not be the A5 frame to the right) into
the text frame in which you want the text to flow...

If you are planning to print on both sides, and to fold the pages in the
middle
to make a booklet, then I ***think*** your 8 page layout might look like
   8   1    {front side of sheet 1}
   2   7    {back side of sheet 1}
   6   3    {front side of sheet 2}
   4   5    {back side of sheet 2}

BUT double check!  I find it useful to cut small paper sheets, fold them
as you
will for the booklet, and then go through and number the pages. Unfolding
the mock pages then makes the sequence clear.

So you would create 4 pages in Scribus, creating 2 A5 sized text frames
on each.
The numbers shown above indicate the booklet pagination.
.
Start your text in #1 (right side of 1st page, prints on top of 1st sheet)
continues into    #2 (left side of 2nd page, prints on back of 1st sheet)
   then into          #3 (right side of 3rd page, prints on front of 2nd
sheet)
   then into          #4 (left side of 4th page, prints on back of 2nd
sheet)
   then into          #5 (right side of 4th page, prints "
   then into          #6 (left side of 3rd page, prints on front of 2nd
sheet)
   then into          #7 (right side of 2nd page, prints on back of 1st
sheet)
   then into          #8 (left side of 1st page, print on front of 1st
sheet)

If I were doing it, I would create small text frames in each and type in
only
the booklet page numbers as shown above - to remind me...
Then as I inserted and flowed my text, I would be able to find the
correct next
text frame to link into...

I hope that helps...
