Another curious bit of information is that it isn't really from the
bounding box, it's some other thing that might be the same as the
bounding box but not necessarily.

Try this experiment:

Make a large text frame and put text in it.
Place another frame of some kind over it, then rotate the frame.
Now, go to Shape - Edit, and edit the rotated frame in some arbitrary way.
Edit the Contour Line too.
While you're at it set some Text Distances in the rotated frame.

Finally, see what happens as you select Text Flows around Bounding Box,
Frame Shape, and Contour line.

What this shows is that you have four entities:

1. The frame shape
2. The contour line
3. The "true" bounding box
4. This other, unnamed box from which the text distances are set.
