The two directions to go would be HTML import or ODT. The former I think 
only makes sense if you are importing a web page, since I don't think 
the bother of creating HTML formatting is sensible.

If you do your formatting in openoffice.org, with or without styles, 
this will be reflected automatically on import to Scribus.
