I'm using Fedora Core 3 and 2. To be a bit more on topic, I have not
had any problems compiling Scribus with FC2 or 3 due to Scribus not
being able to find something or not having it up to date.

There still is an fstab in FC3 that you can use just like you used to,
for mounting other partitions or whatever. I think the whole udev/HAL
thing is still a work in progress. When I first upgraded to FC3
suddenly the recognition of my USB storage devices went kablooey until I
shut of the haldaemon. It's now fixed even with haldaemon on.

Finding the documentation for these new features is my biggest pet
peeve. If it wasn't for fedora-list, I would have been stuck several
times. I briefly subscribed to fedora-list but the volume of mails was
a killer -- now I just browse the archive. Some talk of FC3 being
"bleeding-edge" (mostly when someone complains vociferously about
problems); I think they just have a lower threshold for releasing
updates, and just figure they'll figure out things like the nvidia
drivers later. But when they have guys like Alexander Dalloz answering
list questions, it's amazing what they can figure out.
