I can't help yet because I don't have the foggiest about what I am doing. 
The famous American comic, Bill Cosby, has a routine he does about a
child in kindergarten:
" One and one is two."
" Crazy, man, but what's a two?" 
That is my current state with respect to Scribus.  I need an analogue to
depart from, and TeX clearly isn't it.
