Last night Tom said that he was very impressed with the new text engine
in Scribus, based on HarfBuzz, and that he was going to do the same
thing in Laidout. When complete it should do RTL languages, including
languages with special text problems, e.g., Arabic.

He also demonstrated text on a path, but apologized in advance because
it is not working correctly yet. He started by creating a path with
variable widths (something that few programs can do), then added bezier
curves to it, and finally added the text. Then he grabbed the text and
moved it continuously up and down, on top of the path, on the bottom,
and at any point inside the path. As with everything in Laidout, it is
all done with the mouse - no properties palette needed.
