[scribus] Missing fonts

Forgive me Jo. I have just got my brain in gear;

Can you look in C Windows / Fonts - see if Trajan Pro is still actuall
installed.

Can you look in Openoffice in the fonts;

The top part of that list shows "Recently used" fonts - if you have recently
used Trajan Pro; that is why it is showing in the top part of the fonts list.

The bottom part of that list shows the A-Z list of the available fonts on the
machine; see if Trajan Pro is listed in this part of the fonts list.

My guess is that it is only in the Recently used list and not in the available
list below.

If that is the case then you have windows 10 and the recent update has deleted
the font.

You then need to find a friend still running windows 7 and get them to copy
Trajan Pro out of their Windows / Fonts folder and email it to you.

There are two faces in the font as you probably know; you will need them to copy
out both of them and send them.

Double click on the font file; say install and you should be back in business
for now.

- what happens when Microsoft check up on the fonts folder I don't know.

So two things;

1: create a folder for "Jobs Fonts" - and copy and paste together all the fonts
you use in your various artwork jobs. It's a pain; but it is something I have
learned (like this) the hard way.

2: open your most critical artwork and create a copy with the text converted to
curves. (For heavens' sake keep the original too with revision numbers)

It means you can no longer edit that text in the converted version. But it saves
you the howling grief of a client wanting to reprint a bit of artwork from 4
years ago and you cannot get the original text file open to print it.

But start building up that "Job Fonts" folder. It saves tons of grief when
moving files around between different machines and new versions of windows.

It is amazing how many fonts I have seen rolled back over the years.

I still have an old - 17 year old - copy of Coral Draw CD that I still keep only
for the folders full of fonts on it.

But don't be surprised if, very soon, Windows reports an unlicensed copy of
Trajan Pro on your machine as a result of copying it back from a Windows 7
machine. Then you will have to trudge along to a font shop - I use fonts.com -
and cough up the money.

Not a great start to the day but that is about as gentle as I can break the
news. It's gone. Patch it quick and keep your credit card handy.
