Thanks Owen

That did it... the missing step was to set it up in Preferences!!

Working like a Bomb again - appreciate the help.

I would like to use Scribus 1.5 on my new computer but I am also attempting to keep that one off the internet in the hope of avoiding any form of virus. So fare I have attempted downloading it to this computer but all the sources attempts to install.

This computer is on Windows XP and the new one (to me) is on Windows 7. 64bit.

I am not one of those experts who can build to program.

Is there any suggestions of a site that I can download without installing? I am also hoping to do the same with Inkskape and Gimp.

 Hi,

For latest builds from Inkscape and Gimp you can visit graphicall.org.
This is a website where developers can upload binaries from trunk or
experimental branches. I have always been surprised not to see scribus
binaries uploaded there. I'm fairly new to scribus but graphicall.org
was the first place I checked for binaries from trunk. Hopefully some
developers are willing to register to this site (for free) and start
uploading binaries.

I will see if I can build scribus, but I'm on mingw and there seems to
be an issue with GDI+. Will see how far I can come.

Regards

Maybe you can explain why you want to download but not install...

BTW: I checked SVN and found that Scribus does not come with any
pre-compiled libraries and header files. Would it be a good idea to
setup a new repository with these files in? This will make building
Scribus MUCH easier for new developers or enthusiasts. Blender does
something similar. The only thing you need to do is checkout the correct
libs and headers in a folder next to the sources and you're off.
Blender's CMakeLists.txt will automatically find the correct library
files. If core dev's would agree I could make a working example,
provided I can get mingw32 compilation working. See for more details:

Installing can be a pain sometimes. For instance when you like to test
different builds, an installer could ruin your settings. Also having a
portable app (on USB) is sometimes preferred instead of an installed
version per machine. A zip file can be helpful then. Also administration
levels could prohibit installation.

it would be wonderful if you could get the scribus libraries (and
scribus itself) to work with mingw!

that could really help scribus to get more contributors!

Wouldn't including libraries require a different version of the libraries for every Linux distribution?
Some applications release demo systems as a VM so loading a demo requires only
git clone --recursive https://github.com/app/app.git ; cd app ; vagrant up
See for example https://www.icinga.org/download/

William
