Sorry to be so slow to answer, but a possible reason is that you, or your
computer, changed something about the location of the pictures on your
drive.  I found, much to my dismay, that ALL my work had disappeared on
several similar files (text plus pictures) some time ago, and that was the
reason. Scribus does not embed pictures. It produces pointers to them in
your Scribus file.  So I don't know if this is the problem, but it could
be, since a similar event happened to me.
