I'm not in the UK either (USA, here) but I publish a 60-80 page magazine
quarterly.  If I can be of service to you, I'll be happy to do so via
email.  You are welcome to send an email to the address below.  My magazine
is for ham radio in the southeastern US, but the principle and procedures
may well apply to what you are attempting to do.  When I started, I wish I
had been as thoughtful as you and asked about templates.  I created my own
over the first several issues.  I'm a Linux Ubuntu user and use Scribus
1.4.0rc3 currently.  Our magazine has black and white content with a full
color cover.  So, I have a little experience with both formats.  Anyway,
