I have been reading this thread with interest. I have just started to 
use Scibus to produce a small newsletter (8 to 16 pages).  My first 
issue is 8 pages, containing a total of 23 photos, of various sizes. 
Initially the the size of the PDF created was about 39Mb with the 
following PDF settings: PDF 1.5, with Profile "Optimized for 
Screen/Web", Image resolution limit of 300dpi. When I change the Image 
resolution limit to 72dpi, the size of the PDF is reduced to 1.8Mb, a 
reduction over 20 times.
