Both Scribus 1.3.8 and the QT stuff came from Ubuntu repositories. I
downloaded QT4 settings to see if I could use it to get some visible text
in the Tooltips and downloaded the 1.5.0svn release to see it it had text
in the Tooltips. Everything is in English.

At one point I had an earlier version of Scribus on Ubuntu 10.04 and the
Tooltips worked there, but things changed after a computer update. I agree
with you, I do not believe I should be seeing any problems.

I installed TexWorks earlier and it also has blank tooltips. I wonder if I
am missing a font or something?

I think I will remove these programs and after a reboot, reload and see
what happens.

cheers

keith
