Hello All! Thank you very much for all the responses I got.
Unfortunately, I am still stuck. I am still trying, without success,
to open documents into text boxes in Scribus. the documents are
emailed to me in Word. I downloaded OpenOffice and converted the
document into a .odt file. when i try and open it in the text box the
initials 'PK' appeared and nothing else. cutting and pasting the text
eliminates the formatting. i'm perplexed because this is a process
i've done hundreds of times successfully when i was using Scribus for
Ubuntu on my last computer, but now that I am on a MAC no dice.

I really, really appreciate the help I've gotten so far, so many of
you have been very generous. I think the help I need at this point is
very, very basic. the concepts underlying these issues are very much
beyond my knowledge base, so 99% of the comments and responses on the
listserv I cannot unfortunately put to use. what i need is advice
along the lines of 'click on this icon, then choose x from the drop
down menu'. here's what i am currently doing to try and get the files
into the DTP: clicking on the text box. clicking on the 'edit text'
icon. then clicking on the 'load from file' icon in the story box.
any ideas about what i might be doing wrong? thank you so much in
advance for any help!
