Ok

I missed your original reply sorry.

I'm not an expert, but it may be worth investigating tweaking the script
so that no image compression is used. There are different profiles on
the conversion to ghostscript, which will help.

But yes, it does lose things like hyperlinks etc - I cant see anyway
around that.

I cant really see what else you can try sadly.  Perhaps its worth
persevering with 1.3.5.1 after all ...
