The point is that the distinction between software and hardware does not
make much sense here. The "commercial grade printer" has in most cases a
postscript interpreter. If you send your sRGB or SWOP or Euroscale or
whatever file to this printer, the interpreter reads the profile
information. So it knows that is has to convert from sRGB to its own
device color space. To do so, it uses profiles that you will not even
see, which are device and media dependent. This means that nothing
changes when you change printers, as longs as these come with good
profiles installed (and you use the right paper ;-)

Still, your monitor seams to be uncalibrated.
