In a sense, everyone is right here from their perspective. Louis is no 
doubt pulling his hair out when lots of last minute changes come to the 
work someone submits to him (though so far it's doing a great job of 
growing back!).
For the casual, small newsletter, or a one-off project that you are 
completely doing yourself, there is a different mindset.

Even so, and let me put in a plug about our manual, those doing these 
small projects need to think about workflow. We spend some time and 
space talking about workflow in our upcoming manual. Sometimes even a 
small project may have some severe time-constraints, and this is where a 
well-organized workflow really pays off, if nothing else in anxiety and 
stomach acid reduction.

Even those who "bake their own" DTP for the most part may one day have 
something they need to take to a commercial printer, so it helps to see 
the perspective they have on what you are asking of them.
