one of the reasons Story Editor exists is to speed up text entry. If you
use Edit Contents mode, you can see how slow text entry can be when you
are showing the correct font, linespacing, etc.
In the Roadmap here:
http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/1.3.x_Roadmap#Text_Frames
you can see that some work is being done to improve the performance of
Edit Contents.

Greg

Thank you Greg I'll go check that wiki.

Yes the Story Editor is for that purpose and believe that in the short
term, simply putting one set of Text manipulation tools in one spot is the way
to go.

A text box would I think, have a few hundred words, even in the largest newspaper
or magazine.
Why is there such an overhead and slowness of what is really only basic
positioning on a page and word processing of between 1 word and a few hundred
words in a text box.
Oo.org, inkscape, gimp, abiword all put a text box up instantaneously and permit
instant editing so there must be ways to do this programatically.

I reckon I'm doing something wrong or have incorrect settings or something in
Scribus for it to take several seconds for the text box to appear.
Its not my machine because the situation has been the same on 3 different machines.

A full page A4 is only 500 -1000 words depending on font size.
My text boxes for the newsletter have between 3 and 200 words per text box and a
dozen text boxes per page at most and it still takes 7seconds to put an empty
text box on the first blank pages. and 5 seconds to select and move a text
box with 3 or more words in it, and 7 seconds to simply grab and move a text box
border or corner.

I have rechecked all the settings, It's got me stumped for now.
TIA
Roger
