I resolved the problem with Dean Mccorquodale's help - deleted the
~/.scribus folder and restarted Scribus in order to get it to create a
new preferences folder.

However, I am soon going to acquire a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 7450 to
print book covers. It is a PostScript level 3 machine that will print
on paper up to 256 gsm and 32 cm. by 120 cm. (about 12 points in US
cover stock rating on media up to about 12.25" by 47"), and therefore I
need to figure out how to do color management. I have never done color
work at all before, so I know next to nothing about it - in the past I
sent all my covers out to be printed and they are all in just one color
ink, so I just created the artwork in grayscale.

Since I will now have the capacity to do full color I need to figure
out color management in addition to learning Scribus. Any tips on color
how-tos for rank amateurs will be appreciated. Meantime, where do I
enable color management and printer profiles?
