Yes, well ? that's not very WYSIWIG, is it? Basically it would mean
using some substitute for the glyph (for example \euro for ?) and
finally replacing it with the proper font/glyph.

There are two hazards when using this method:

     1. The layout will change when changing the marker with the proper
        symbol.
     2. You have to remember which symbols you've used.

Well, it's better than nothing, but not that satisfying.
