John,

I've no access to 64-bit hardware, so Scribus .deb repositories for Debian and
Ubuntu described in
http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php?title=Scribus_on_Debian_GNU/Linux contain
only 32-bit code. Please follow the rather simple instructions from the above
wiki page to build a scribus-cvs (1.3.x series) or scribus (1.2.x series)
binary package for your 64-bit platform from the available source package.
Also, if you submit the built binary package to me I'll include it in the
repository, so other users could benefit from it as well.
