I also have had similar errors trying to compile Scribus 1.2.1+  with 
SuSE 9.2.
I have hesitated to put them on the list to this time. But it has 
happened over and over.
The config runs smoothly and everything is there. But make always crashes.
I have included the last part of the error messages in case this would 
be helpful.

I use the SuSE rpm that has been on the Scribus download sight. It works 
fine.
