Thanks for your advice, Owen.
I did something similar (installed QT 3.3. in /opt/qt33, edited
/etc/profiles.d/qt3.sh, so QTDIR is now /opt/qt33).
./configure runs without problems now, but make still fails.
Here are the error messages:
