These errors I think are related. Try recompiling like this:

1) Return to the source directory where you un-tarred and compiled
Scribus.

2) remove config.cache ex:  rm config.cache && make clean

3) type exactly:     export LDFLAGS="-lm"

4) ./configure

This should change the:

ac_cv_lib_tiff_TIFFOpen=${ac_cv_lib_tiff_TIFFOpen=no}.

to TIFFOpen=yes

Fixing the TIFF errors should fix this problem.

BTW, I have had great luck running both Acrobat Reader 5.1 and the full
version of Acrobat 5.0.5 with the PDF/X-3 Inspektor plug-in with the
last two or three versions of wine compiled from source. They both run
quite reliably. One hint is to remove the docbox.api plug-in or the
whole intertrust directory after installing. This is a known issue with
Acrobat, even on Windows.

On the the todo list for the docs is some hints for using wine as a part
of your toolkit to support Scribus.

I hope that helps,
Peter
