This jogged my memory. The Calibri fonts as distributed by Microsoft
originally had (and might still have) broken embedded bitmaps. This
caused really ugly font rendering on-screen in Linux. If you have such
a broken font, I would expect the issue to go away if one generates a
PDF with the Calibri font outlined (instead of embedded, under the
"Fonts" tab of the PDF export dialog).

Version 5.72 is the latest release of Calibri that I could find
at Microsoft's site, but apparently Martin has a 6.12. The original
poster may want to check his fonts folder to see if maybe he has an
older version. Not sure if the issue is fixed in a later release by the way.
On my Ubuntu box, I've disabled embedded bitmaps in fontconfig because
of Calibri, so I don't even notice anymore when I receive a document that
has a broken bitmap embedded.

With kind regards,
I am no expert on kerning, but since c and d are rounded similar to e
(on the left side where meeting the f) and since they show roughly the
same distance, it just looks right to me.
So do you really have 1.4.6 and 1.5.2 on the same machine, and using the
same font-file? Get around? I would first try to get a fresh copy of the
font and see what happens. Next I would try a fresh installation of the
offending Scribus.

I hope my non-confirmation will help you towards sleuthing out your problem.
