I have seen this end up being a display issue in Adobe Reader. To see if
this might be the case, first increase the zoom of the page in Adobe
Reader and see if the 'i' shows up, since it may be a rasterization and
antialiasing issue. The ultimate test is to see if the 'i' prints on paper.
