There is some point to what you're saying, but it's also good that the
necessary information has been considerably compressed horizontally with
the help of these abbreviations, as well as elimination of duplicate
information.

Maybe instead of a, b, c, d, e, and f they might be T, F, E, S, O, A,
and U, which at least give a hint to the fact they stand for Type,
Format, Embed in PostScript, Subset, Outline, Access, and Used.
