I changed the Subject to more accurately reflect this topic.
Some systems have trouble with certain shortcuts due to the shortcut
already being used by the system. OSX of course has some differences in
keys and the mouse too.
For most things there are different ways to accomplish most tasks. There
is an icon on the toolbar for Edit Contents mode (capital 'A' with a
vertical bar superimposed), and its shortcut is 'E'. Clicking outside
the frame or pressing Esc will get you out of Edit Contents mode.
In Select Item mode, changes you make to the font, either manually
changing features in the Text tab of Properties, or selecting a
paragraph style, will be applied to all the text in the frame.
In Edit Contents mode, you will find that nothing happens when you try
to manually change font parameters until you highlight some text. On the
other hand, applying a paragraph style should happen to whatever
paragraph the cursor is in, or in the paragraph(s) where text is
highlighted.
It won't hurt for you to fish through various parts of the online manual
to see what information and advice is there.
