For laying out music, and making it look VERY professional, you might consider Lilypond:

There are horses for courses. When I need to typeset music I use
Mup, a shareware program that is designed for that purpose (one
time fee of $20.) The output is postscript which can be changed
to pdf and imported into most DTP programs including Scribus.
