Thanks a.l.e - Peter suggested the same last alternative.
I didn't end up splitting it though - restarted the computer
and it seems far more responsive now.

BTW - side note - Does any other Ubuntu user here find
Ubuntu quite sluggish? I might return to Windows 7, but
this time I'll take Scribus with me :-)
