hi rolf,

> Do I have a chance to verify the resolution of the pictures in the PDF?

if you're on linux use pdftohtml to extract the images "as they are"
from the pdf and then have a look at them...

... pdftohtml works also on windows or mac but it may be a bit harder to
get it...

an alternative is to use libre/open-office: open the pdf, select the
picture and through the context menu "save it as picture". while i know
that it will be able to extract your images, i didn't try if *office
extracts the images as is or it does some work on them.

two notes for you:
- if you ask scribus to resample a jpg and the original jpg was very
well compressed, the smaller jpg may be bigger than the bigger one (this
is more likely to happen if the two jpg have a similar resolution)
- if you "cropped" the image in scribus, the full image will be inserted
in the pdf and the overflowing part will be hidden.

basically, if size matters for you, you should manually resize the
images in a directory nearby the one with your images and then rename
the directories as follows:

- project/project.sla
- project/images/*.jpg
- project/images_small/*.jpg

to

- project/project.sla
- project/images_big/*.jpg
- project/images/*.jpg

to get this to work, you will have to put all your images in a directory
(if possible a subdirectory of your project)
