Mac OS X has excellent support for Urdu, and they have announced to make it even better in OS X Lion. Many word processors work wonderfully fro Urdu on the mac. Scrivener, Mellel and Nisus Express have total support of Urdu, of course not to speak of the free Bean, TextEdit and iTextExpress etc. But none is suitable for DTP, as Scribus is.

This is being worked on, but is a big project because of the need for
precise placement of the various glyphs, and complicated by the various
changes that happen depending on a glyph's neighbors.

This is definitely something we are strongly interested in.
