Am using Fedora 14, 64-bit, and I find that with 1.3.9 from Fedora's 
repository, the Compose key works in SE but not in Edit Contents mode.

OTOH, with 1.4.0svn, it works in both, so there is some promise that 
this has been fixed. Not sure if this will apply to Ubuntu.
