[scribus] Send to Layer changes pure blacks

Hi,
I am working on a book cover using a printer supplied template. There is a
bar code that is in pure black. When I print as is to EPS/Distiller, it
creates a PDF with a pure black bar code. I created a new layer called ISBN
and then used Send to Layer to move the bar code up to the ISBN layer. Now,
when I print the page to EPS and run through Distiller, the bar code is no
longer pure black -- it has small amounts of CM&Y in each bar.
I'm puzzled by this. I have "printer" selected for color management (ie
CMYK) everywhere that I can think of. It seems that the act of sending to
layer is somehow adding the colors to the pure black objects. Does anyone
understand why this is happening and how to fix it?
