Aside from the other comments, you've just illustrated two simple uses 
of the command line, being able to start Scribus and Fontmatrix from the 
command line. Typing 'scribus' even by itself without other switches 
gives some information you can view later as Scribus starts up. Typing 
'fontmatrix' will first of all tell you if it is on your system.

The next step would be to type 'man scribus' or 'man fontmatrix', each 
of which should give you information about the switches for each for 
specific purposes. For example, 'scribus -fi' will show information 
about fonts as Scribus starts up.
