[scribus] Kerning redux

Strange, I have 1.3.5 & I find need to select text (I'm assuming that I 
need to be in "edit text" here, perhaps incorrectly?) to be able to have 
the kerning effect happen. I'm also using Ubuntu 9.04, if that could 
make any difference. Or what...?
