I am learning to use Scribus with version 1.3.3.11 for Windows (on a Win
XP/Pro SP3 system).
I am familiar with InDesign CS3, and I use it for a 12 page newsletter. I
have used Microsoft Publisher (not my choice) in the past. I have also
explored PagePlus. These applications either have a direct booklet option,
or a booklet is created when the "facing pages" option is selected.
By booklet, I mean a multi-page document that is displayed with "reader
spreads" (page 1, then pages 2 and 3, etc.) but prints with "printer
spreads" (pages 1 and 12, then 2 and 11, etc.).
If I correctly understand the Scribus documentation, in order to do this
with Scribus, one needs an additional utility, either "psutils" or
Multivalent.
Is that correct?
I found a mailing list response from March of 2006 that provides sources to
download either in Windows versions. I connected to the two websites, but I
am still unclear which to use (if, in fact I am correct in concluding that
one or the other must be used). In order to use Multivalent, is it
necessary to convert the Scribus file to PDF first? From the description on
the website, that appears to be the case.
Apparently, with psutils, the booklet can be created directly from the
Scribus file. Is that correct?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of each approach?
Thank you.
