On Leopard this is no longer true. The fontconfig and freetype in 
/usr/X11 (which is now installed by default) are quite new, 
fontconfig-2.4.1 and freetype-2.3.5. The fink fontconfig package for 
Leopard now uses fontconfig from /usr/X11.
