[Scribus] What is an S font?

My bad.  I had tried to invoke Scribus from the command line as 
root. with the result:
root at bra-desktop:~# scribus -fi
scribus: cannot connect to X server

Working as user was MUCH more successful !
BUT no errors were found.
Here are three of the more interesting lines:
Loading font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-pref/Gargi_1.7.ttf 
(found using fontconfig)
Loading font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-pref/comixh.ttf (found 
using fontconfig)
Loading font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-pref/fritzbi.ttf (found 
using fontconfig)

So why are these fonts marked "S" ?
