I regard Scribus, PageMaker, etc. as fundamentally assembly apps for
layout and print prep, with extra tools for common tasks, but which
do not have all the grunt that the specialist tools have. In fact, I
could do in FrameMaker pretty much what you do in Scribus but with a
slightly more laborious method of linking (chaining) discontinuous
stories, *and* with much better TOC, cross-reference, and indexing
support. But FM is not fundamentally a layout and assembly
program. Each does what it does best.

So I figured that Scribus is a good place to pose the question
because there must be others using The Gimp, Krita, Inkscape, etc.
for special graphics who could steer me corretly. Believe me, I have
google until my eyes rolled up! I may be onto a lead and will report
back if it turns out to have substance.

Regards,
Hedley
