No need for tar and feathers, they and you can have Scribus and the old ways and 
your associates have the choice,
Your associates may need about 15 - 30 minutes basics instruction in Scribus but 
the rest should be fairly intuitive and a darn sight easier than word or 
openoffice.org.
Even when a learning process is taken into account Scribus is easier than doing 
anything on the others.
