Wow thanks for the info.
I ran xara from a terminal as suggested and these are the results.

[work at localhost ~]$ /home/work/.local/bin/xaralx
/home/work/.local/bin/xaralx: error while loading shared libraries:
libstdc++.so .5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory........

  so I did a search and found

[root at localhost work]# locate libstdc++.so
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.4
/usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/4.0.0/libstdc++.so
/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libstdc++.so.5
/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libstdc++.so.5/libstdc++.so.5
/home/work/.local/lib/libstdc++.so.5
/home/work/.local/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.2.apkg

The required file is in /.local/lib/ and xara is in /.local/bin
I seem to remember during the installation something that said to create
a directory /.local and put xara in there but I cannot find the document.

I put PATH=/.local/lib $PATH into the .bashrc but that doesnt help.

What to do now please
Many thanks
Roger
