i have a kds 17" avitron monitor and i have found that most of the
presets (9500, 6500 and 5500)are either too warm or too cool. i
currently use the user setting with the rgb values set at 50% each.
this give me a neutral color. as long as all of the rgb values are the
same there should be no color shift. of course the more or less the
percentage adjusts the "brightness" of the neutral value.

i also have set the color profile of the monitor to srgb (i work
primarily for web production), but what we are talking about is monitor
output. i have produced a pdf for the printer and printed to a
non-postscript printer for proofing with good results. i have not
tested with a commercial printer though. i would recommend if you
decide to give this a go, being the daily users that you are, that you
run a test with your commercial printer. however, with the cymk output
provided by scribus should not affect negatively the results you are
used to.
