You can load a PDF into an image frame, then crop as needed. One caveat 
is that only the first page of a PDF is put in the frame, so you would 
need to break up your PDF for other pages (pdftk is one utility to do 
that). The other problem is that the last time I checked this process, 
there was a slight reduction in resolution with this method (text in 
particular may get a bit pixelated), but still maybe adequate for your 
needs.
