Thanks for your hints. I separated vectors and bitmaps in coreldraw and
exported 2 eps for them. After that I imported one eps of vectors into
Scribus, and then imported the other eps of bitmaps into image frames of
Scribus. The reason I did not import each original bitmaps into Scribus
one by one is that it was time consuming and I dit not want to correct
the positioning of each one after import.

This approach was very very fast. Thus I doubted it was the bitmaps that
made the process infinite in my first approach.

Perhaps Scribus could be developed to have smarter way to separate
vectors and bitmaps from one eps consist of both vectors and bitmaps,
and import them by different means as described automatically, which may
make the import of eps much faster. :)
