In case you are unaware, TIFF is one of the few popular image formats 
which does support transparency. If you can find no other solution, then 
removing the transparency information (the alpha channel) from your 
TIFFs may be your simplest solution. Both Photoshop or Gimp should have 
trouble removing the alpha channel from a TIFF. Your comment above 
implies that you do not believe the images to have transparency, but you 
may still find that you were in fact relying on their having 
transparency, so be sure to carefully proof those pages containing the 
modified TIFFs.
