IMO it would be a good thing to specify a color mode for an image.

The ability to define base colors (default being CMYK or RGB; CMYK+Spot
and RGB+Spot are allowed) would be cool! This would allow some serious
spot color work with reasonable previews. :-) The color selector would
have to be extended to allow mixing a color from all base colors.

I don't know about moire - just used spot colors once and haven't used
images with spot colors yet.

Ink saturation should also be configurable and should be quite easy to
implement (at least basic support for the color mixer, I suppose,
checking PDF for max ink levels could get pretty difficult).

I'd suggest to check the bugtracker and open a feature request for each
of the items you propose.
