 I presume you installed it as root as you would not have successfully
run "make" otherwise.

It sounds like you think Scribus has installed itself in the same
folder where you extracted the files.  If that's the case - nothing
like that.  If you ran "./configure" simply with no custom arguments
then Scribus' executable should be in one of the default locations -
possibly /usr/local or /opt/.  Just take a ls(ting) of /usr/local (ls
/usr/local) and /opt/ (ls /opt) to find out where it is installed. 
Or, locate it using "locate scribus" or "find ./ -name scribus -print"
if all else fails!   Make sure the directory where it got installed is
in your path.

Further if you aren't going to need the folder where you extracted the
files then you can delete the whole thing.

p.s. I use Fedora Core 3.  You may not be able to find "locate" on
other distros.
