[Scribus] DTP file standard?

I know that Quark and Adobe would howl at this thought, but what about
the idea of pushing for a
DTP file standard?

Gimp, Photoshop, Cinepaint, Painter, et al, can all read and write
several common formats in addition to having their own native file
formats..
Why not Scribus and the others? Granted DTP files can be more
complicated, but all computer files are just sets of instructions and
data, right?

Is that on the plate? I'd think a lingua franca format would be
conceptually in line with the whole notion of open source software..
