I am not sure if it will help, but I've run into an issue with the removal of
docs because them are not DFSG-free and have to be packaged separately for
Debian GNU/Linux. I export the distribution tarball from the cvs source; move
the "scribus/doc" directory outside of the source tree and patch
"configure.in" and "scribus/Makefile.am" files before I run the Debian package
build. It seems to work very well and does not break anything, i.e. docs
become available again if the scribus-doc package is installed, otherwise
there are no ill effects. If you'd like to see the patches I'd be happy to
provide them.
