[Scribus] Backward compatibility

Possibly, though you may have problems. I know you can still load really
old Scribus files in 1.1.6 :-)

What you're also talking about it forward compatibility - the ability to
load into an older version of the software files saved from a new
version. Reverse is the opposite.
